Acceptable Use Policy

What organisations and their users may and may not do on Event Star. Last updated 8 October 2026.

1. Purpose

This policy forms part of our Terms of Service. It applies to every organisation and person using Event Star, and keeps the platform safe, lawful and reliable for everyone.

2. Events you may not run

  • events that are unlawful, or that promote violence, hatred or discrimination;
  • fake events, or events used to collect money or personal information under false pretences;
  • pyramid schemes, unlawful gambling, or the sale of illegal goods or services;
  • events you are not authorised to sell tickets for.

3. Content you may not publish

  • content that infringes copyright, trade marks or other rights (only use logos, images and text you have the right to use);
  • defamatory, obscene, harassing or misleading content;
  • malware, or links intended to deceive people (phishing);
  • other people's personal information without a lawful basis.

4. Email and messaging

  • Send event emails only to people who registered for your event or who agreed to hear from you.
  • Do not send spam, buy or rent email lists, or import contacts who did not register with you.
  • Marketing messages must identify your organisation and let people opt out, as POPIA and the Consumer Protection Act require.
  • We may pause sending if bounce or complaint rates show a list problem, to protect delivery for all organisers.

5. Security and fair use

  • Do not try to access other organisations' data, test or bypass security, or share your login with people outside your organisation.
  • Do not overload the Service (for example with automated scraping or excessive API calls) or interfere with its operation.
  • Do not resell, rent or white-label the Service without our written agreement.
  • Report security issues to us responsibly at hello@eventstar.co.za instead of exploiting them.

6. Enforcement

If we reasonably believe this policy has been broken, we may remove content, pause emails or ticket sales, suspend users or close the account, where possible after contacting you. We may report unlawful activity to the authorities.

7. Reporting abuse

To report an event or content that breaks this policy, email hello@eventstar.co.za with the event link and details.
