Dr Jacobus Barnard
Dental Mediator at South African Dental Association
About
Dr Jacobus Barnard is an experienced South African family dentist, dental mediator, and risk management presenter with a career spanning over two decades.
After graduating with a BChD from the University of Pretoria in 1999, Dr Barnard practiced in both South Africa and the United Kingdom. He established his own private practice in Oudtshoorn in 2006, where he continues to serve patients today. In addition to his primary dental qualifications, he holds postgraduate diplomas in Implantology and Sedation and Pain Control from the University of the Western Cape.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Barnard is heavily involved in the medical-legal and professional development sectors of dentistry:
• Mediation & Law: He has served as a Dental Mediator for the South African Dental Association (SADA) since 2014 and is an accredited medical-legal practitioner through the South African Medical Legal Association (SAMLA).
• Education: Since 2010, he has worked as a Faculty Presenter for Dental Protection, leading specialized workshops focused on risk management and professional communication.
• Philanthropy: He is a passionate advocate for children's health, serving as a charity ambassador for both a South African charity for children in need and the Smile Foundation, which facilitates corrective surgeries for children born with facial abnormalities.
